It’s not just any birthday…
Yep, it’s a big round birthday! (Let’s say 30)
In honor of my “let’s-call-it-30th birthday” on Thursday June 5, I wanted to do things that anyone and everyone could join me in.
So here’s my two-part birthday celebration and I’d love for you to join me for either or both of these open-to-all events:
(Phone viewers, please turn your phone horizontal)
Part 1: Thurs June 5 at 8:30pm.
|
Part 2: Friday June 6 at 8:30pm.

Details of each below.
Part 1: Thurs June 5 at 6:15pm:
SoSayWeAll’s Storytelling showcase: “Long Story Short”
At Thorn St. Brewing
This is different from their “VAMP” program I go to monthly where seven stories are selected from dozens submitted and judged. “Long Story Short” is another monthly bar event where anyone can put their name in the hat to get up and tell a story up to five minutes, usually on the month’s theme.
The stories are less polished than VAMP and told without any notes, but the last time I went was a hoot and you get to hear a lot of stories, since they are capped at five minutes. I’ve got my story ready in case they pick my name; come ready to share a story yourself…or just enjoy the show and some drinks with me!
Here’s their description of this month’s theme “Bottomless”:
“Whether it’s our appetites, desires, or pits of despair, we’ve all felt a bit bottomless at times. Come hear takes and tales of the things in life that seem never ending, for better or worse.”
PS: The theme is just a starting point; they’ll tell you themselves that they’d rather hear a great story that doesn’t fit the theme at all than having you worry too much about matching it.
6:15pm arrival; show from 7pm – 9pm
Thorn St. Brewing
3176 Thorn Street, San Diego, CA 92104
$10 donation at the door to the SoSayWeAll non-profit organization; no reservations needed.
Part 2: Friday June 6 at 8:30pm: Free tickets to our musical improv show “Broadway Unscripted!”
I’ve been in this troupe for a long time, but there was so much turnover all the time, I was hesitant to invite friends.
I finally feel like we’ve got longevity and the right the time groove and the time is right to invite friends at last.
Then, for some reason unbeknownst to me, they made the whole night in the middle of my birthday weekend open, free tickets shows (when done by reservation)!
That said, Mockingbird Improv is a 501c3 non-profit and any donations are appreciated. Snacks and beverages (soft and hard) are available for purchase.
A note to me to say you’re coming is nice so I can greet you, but what you need to do to get those frée tickets is
go to this page on the site and click the green “Get Tickets” button.
Address: Liberty Station / NTC Arts District – 2590 Truxtun Rd, Studio 200.
PLENTY of free parking in the lot across from the Von’s. Then cross the little side street called Truxton to enter our building on the corner. Mockingbird Improv is on the second floor.
Visit www.MockingbirdImprov.org to learn more about the theater and their other shows.
Want to see more free improv that night? Stay for All Hands On Deck’s “Uncensored” show at 9:45. Info via those links; tickets via this link.
Depending how many of us there are, we might go out for a drink in Liberty Station after my show or stay for Uncensored…playing that by ear.
See you on June 5 or 6!!!
Oh, how the time is ticking away till then!!!
